the most wonderful time of year (and the most wonderful event!)

The Music Box Theatre is a true Chicago institution and their annual Christmas double-feature is one of my absolute favorite things in the entire world. I’ll never forget my first time visiting because I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I assumed it was just going to be popcorn and a movie, but I’d actually stumbled upon something magical.

This year, they’re double-feature event is celebrating thirty-six years! And once again, from December 12th right through Christmas Eve, they’ll be showing It’s A Wonderful Life and White Christmas. Ticket info can be found here. I know this sounds like your typical movie experience, but it’s not! Before the movies begin there are Christmas carols sung by a choir, midway through Santa makes an appearance, and during the movies themselves, audience members throw fake snow into the air. I have a smile on my face the entire time and my heart is warm like an open fire.

I can’t recommend it enough — it’s one of those you-have-to-be-there-to-understand sorts of things. Make plans to go!
