Johnnyswim returns to Des Moines for a fourth time on Tuesday, July 9th. They’re currently traveling the country in promotion of their latest album, Moonlight. Tickets can be purchased through Wooly’s website here.
In case you missed it here’s my interview with them from two summers ago. It was so fun to chat with them! Now, I don’t normally see a band this many times this will be my fifth time seeing them!) but Johnnyswim has this harmonious alchemy that makes their live shows super special. I’d definitely suggest going, especially with tickets being a mere $28. Hit up Eatery A for happy hour beforehand and you’ve got yourself a night!
Brooke Summers is the founder of design studio, Craft + Curate. She’s also the brains behind Hinterland’s stellar creative team. We chatted recently about her creative journey, as well as how she helped craft Hinterland’s unique aesthetic.
This is the year that Hinterland is put on the map.
While sitting beneath a lavender sky and enjoying temperatures below eighty degrees, you got the feeling Mother Nature herself was conspiring to make Hinterland extraordinary. She did good. While listening to the Head and the Heart serenade the crowds, I jotted down some notes...
Hinterland is here. This is one of my favorite Midwestern events. It only started three years ago, but already feels distinct and special. Max Jury kicks things off Saturday morning and I was able to talk with him briefly about his journey.
As Des Moines experiences tremendous growth, my eyes tend to wander behind the scenes, in search of those who are working to facilitate the growth. Amedeo Rossi is one of those people. I talked with him last year and have been sitting on this interview for awhile, but it feels like a good time to post it with the music festivals coming up this summer.
Ameodeo runs Vaudeville Mews and the Lift, helped found Des Moines Music Coalition, and was also one of the organizers of 80/35 Music Festival. I left our meeting feeling inspired and I think you'll leave this article feeling inspired, too.
One of my favorite experiences last year was attending Hinterland Music Festival out in St. Charles, Iowa. I'll never forget laying underneath the stars and listening to Ray LaMontagne serenade me and my friends. It was pure magic, folks.
This was the highlight of my summer and one of the most enchanting experiences of the whole year. If you haven't been to Hinterland, I suggest you make every effort to go next year because it's only going to become more popular as time goes on. Unlike 80/35 - which I think could really take place anywhere - Hinterland is uniquely Midwest. More after the jump.
