covid carryout: the not-so-definitive list

Cooking‘s fun until you have to do it every day of the week. Thankfully, ordering carryout breaks up that monotony. Keep in mind that while there are many options around town, these are my personal favorites.

Eatery A. Every Monday (and for unexplained reasons, some Thursdays, too) Eatery A serves up pizzas for just $10.00 each. Order by phone.

St. Kilda Surf & Turf. With free local delivery and the best fish tacos in town, I consider this one a no-brainer. Also, I can attest that the food tastes just as good sans their signature aesthetic. Order online. (UPDATE: As of December 2020, this establishment has closed. Sad! Some menu items are available at St. Kilda Collective, though.

Northern Vessel. I’ve only purchased from these guys once, but it was delicious and sort of awesome to get an early morning text that says, “We’re here with your coffee delivery.” I’m excited to try their New Orlean’s Cold Brew. Order online before three.

Wasabi Ankeny. Yes, it’s Ankeny. Sue me. I eat here weekly. Limited menu for now. Order online.

The Bartender’s Handshake. Allowing people to order cocktails to-go feels long overdue. I wonder if this trend will continue post-plague? Regardless, for now, $18.00 gets you a pre-batched cocktail (two servings per order) with garnishes included. Order online.

Tasty Taco. It’s an old faithful. You can order and have it in your hand within five minutes. My Mexican friends make fun of me, but I have no shame. Order at the counter, in person.
